Crazy
nuns in the Himalayas! While the DVD version of this classic
doesn't do the cinematography justice, the story of a band
of nuns trying to make do (and failing) still captivates.
Since I didn't read the novel, I have no idea exactly why
they chose to keep the rather obscure title, since it has
nothing to do with the story. 02/01 |

Early
Kurosawa is so effortless, it seems a shame to watch any of
his later works, which are hilariously earnest in being "Japanese,"
whatever the hell that means. This is the ultimate crime story:
the story is clever, the mystery is logical if over-the-top,
and it's got Toshiro Mifune in his prime daddy years. A fine
film for the inquisitive. 11/00
