This is across from one of the gay brunch spots, so we went
here because I didn't feel like waiting in line. In chaps.
We ate at a table for two on the sidewalk, and the day was
very pleasant. Our waiter was really cute, which is another
plus, and I'm pretty sure I've met him before. But I digress...
We had an appetizer plate, which was fine. The pita was cold,
which kind of puts a damper on things. My entree was fair,
but looked good enough for the guy next to me to order it.
My boyfriend's lunch salad was fine as well. A fine place
to go if the weather is good and you just gotta have some
hummus and you're too lazy to walk to Ararat. Coffee rounded
things out. Before tip: $24 for two. June

A note from a visitor, which I'm posting
until I can visit myself. Thanks, Jensine:
I'm noticing your lack of Greek restaurant
listings. My one
greek
restaurant
experience
out here
is at Castle
Greek Cafe, a greek lunch counter (two locations:
First St. at Nicholson, and the strip mall at Tasman
and Lick
Mill).
The variety is pretty good...the gyros
(ask for them spicy) are tasty, the spanakopita is
really
nice,
and the Combo plate is huge and tasty. I usually
pick up
a side of houmus and pita for a late afternoon
snack; it's addictive. I'm not an expert when it comes
to
the falafel - it's tasty here, but I find it really
dry.
Good thing they give you a lot of really bright-tasting
cucumber sauce with everything.
Service: It's counter
service, but always attentive and they're very good
about accomodating special
orders.
Prices: $7 or so will buy you the best
gyro you will find outside of Chicago's Greektown.
It's
well worth
the $11 for the combo plate (a little bit of
everything - gyros meat, dolma, falafel, rice,
greek salad,
pita, houmus). |
