Hardy's Bavaria
111 W. Evelyn Ave.
Sunnyvale, CA 94086
408/720-1531
T-F -11:00 a.m. (lunch), T-F - 5:00 p.m. (dinner)

Small, homey place next to the Sunnyvale downtown train station with an interesting selection of German dishes. Since I've only eaten at one other German restaurant, which was run by a Swiss couple, I can't vouch for its authenticity, but on a chilly night it fits the bill. 01/01

Teske's Germania
255 N. First St. (cross street Devine)
San Jose, CA 95113
408/292-0291
Lunch: Mon-Fri 11-2, Dinner: Mon-Sat 5-9

A surprisingly large restaurant, given that when entering you need to squeeze through a long, narrow bar to get to the hostess. We had the sausage appetizer platter—four large sausages, one of which was a lovely bratwurst. The entrees were tasty and simply prepared. Their spaetzle is of the thinner variety, more like soft thick noodles than the plump dumplings that I'm used to. Service was excellent, especially considering I was drunk off my ass at the time. 01/02
