After 20 months of daily use, the leather on my driver's seat was looking a little piqued. While burnished leather is pretty on club chair or motorcyle jacket, it just looks dirty when you compare it with a relatively clean passenger's seat.
Products
I bought Zaino Leather Soft spray cleaner and Leather in a Bottle (plus a bottle of Gloss Enhancer) for $35.80 mail order, mostly because I trust them to a) have a good product, and b) not do any harm. And, no, I'm not being paid to say this.
NOTE: I tested both products on my briefcase before doing my car, and the results were excellent. The cleaner took off a lot of grime, and the treatment and conditioner gave it a nice supple feel and returned the leather smell.
Anyway...
Application
The Leather Soft is a watery, clear spray. The instructions say to apply it with a soft brush, which I interpreted as a toothbrush. That sounded a little too obsessive compulsive, so I just used paper towels.
The cleaner does not instantly strip away 20 months of neglect. It took some elbow grease, and I suppose this is why they recommend the brush. As you can see the results are fairly subtle on the gray leathermostly removing the shine and returning it to its original color.
Leather in a Bottle is a thin, white cream about the consistency of hand lotion, which is exactly what it is if you think of it. It does intensify the leather smell as advertised, sometimes more than you want; I would also recommend wearing gloves while applying it if you don't want to smell like baseball mitt afterward.
Time to complete: 20 mins. for both front seats. Next stop: the scuff marks on the bottom half of both seats.
