December 4 I call Stevens Creek BMW to schedule an appointment to get my aux fan replaced. Their service has been excellent, and it's only ten minutes from my house. They say I need to wait up to ten days until the part arrives before setting a hard date.
December 7 Postcard arrives. Replacement fan is in.

Scheduled
maintenance

9 a.m. check-in is quick and effortless. I ask my service guy, Gabe, if they can fix the electronic key so that it takes two presses to unlock the trunk. Not possible, Gabe says, and he sends me off for coffee and donuts.

Side note: The design of the key or my own clumsiness results in my opening the trunk accidentally. I get in the car in the morning, the trunk is open. I get in the car after work, the trunk is open. You get the idea.

Rental car hellOne tiny problem with Stevens Creek is that their shuttle service can get bogged down resulting in an hour-long wait, which is exactly what happened. It also happened that day that I got the last car on the lot...an enormous minivan.

Late that day and right on schedule, Gabe calls at 4:30 p.m. and tells me I can "pick up my baby." He says that I can call for my next appointment as soon as the countdown at start up is under 1,000 miles.

Items replaced:

  • Aux fan housing
  • Oil filter
  • Oil 5W30 synthetic
  • Microfilter
December 19 Get a call from BMW regarding the service at the dealership. Stevens Creek gets an "excellent" on everything.

December 29

Wet weather performance is impressive, even during a torrential (for California) downpour. The automatic windshield wipers don't appear to speed up beyond the maximum "low" speed.
