For anyone who visits the south of market area
in San Francisco, a word of warning.
My passenger's side window was busted out at the corner of
Harrison and 10th between 11 p.m. and 1 p.m. Again, they didn't
take anything. It just looked like they kicked in or other
wise broke in just to be malicious, and judging from the amount
of window glass on the surrounding blocks, this wasn't unusual.
Anyway, I have two brand new side windows now. I took it to
MAZ in San Francisco again ($279.02) after about four hours.
The repair guy said that it's extraordinarily hard to replace
BMW windows because of how you have to access the connection
between the window glass and the lift mechanism. I have a slight
squeak now from the driver's door on rough pavement, but otherwise
they did a nice job. I was kind of hoping they could fix the
problem I've had with the actuator (or whatever you call that
part that lowers the window a bit when you open or close the
door), but no luck. Still forgets to drop sometimes.
UPDATE: December 2007 - Take your window repairs to someone
who is REALLY familiar with how BMW windows work. The dealership
had them working like a charm with no problems.
